The Reading Company owned and operated many locomotives ranging from the classic steam locomotives to the more common diesel locomotives. The Reading Company owned famous trains such as The Crusader. They also owned modern diesel units of the time. They included General Electric U30C's,Electro Motive Division SD45's,Alco C630's,and many other well known diesel units. They also owned many steam units such as T-1's,Mallets,G-1's, and many other classic steam units.Only about eight steam units made it through the Reading's full dieselization, but many diesel locomotives survive to this day! After the government stepped in and took over most of the northern railroads the Reading was taken over.In 1976 the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society (RCT&HS) was established to preserve Reading Railroad artifacts, knowledge, and equipment. The RCT&HS now has over seventy pieces of Reading rollingstock in their collection! They include GP-30 5513,U30C 6300,C630 5308,and many other diesel units! The RCT&HS also owns some Rail Diesel Cars (RDC's) and lots of coaches along with some MU cars! Here is the RCT&HS's web site. The photo below is at the Reading Blue Montain & Northern Railroad's headquarters (Port Clinton,Pa).
