| Post subject: | Erie Wyoming Division |
I'm researching the Erie's Wyoming Division and in particular, it's Scranton Branch, which operated into Scranton where the Erie had a passenger/freight station. Regarding the branch, I've been able to compile a fair amount of factual information, but cannot find anything on any passenger service that may have operated on the branch. Also, I have been unable to located any photographic materials on the branch at all. As a kid, had I been smart, I would have taken pictures. Does anyone have any information, both historical and factual, that might be of help? I've done a lot of online checking and haven't come up with very much. Any information and/or leads are greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Rick Sedlisky The branch was taken out of service by Conrail, I believe in the 1980s. All rails, trestles, etc., are gone. The station is a restaurant and the Dunmore Shops are seeing other uses. UpperWestBud@aol.com |

I really don't have much info about the line itself, but I do know that at least one bridge is still standing. It (a truss style affair) crosses over the Steamtown main line at about (DL&W) Milepost 127.40. The right of way on either side has been obliterated by mother nature and father time, but the bridge itself is still there. The rails are gone and the ties are mostly gone as well. For anyone who's been on the Steamtown excursion, its the 2nd railroad bridge you pass under, the first was a part of the Erie Jessup branch. There is a second bridge, a plate girder type, still in place over route 307 in Scranton as well. Also I believe that parts of the Wyoming division are still in use by the Luzurne and Susquehanna Railroad between Avoca PA and Montage Mountain in Scranton. I know that its Erie Trackage, and I'm pretty sure it was the Wyoming division. The tracks themselves, even the in service portions, are in terrible shape, a shadow of what once was.
