Post subject: Norfolk Southern and DIesel Fuel Prices
PostPosted: Mon Apr 16, 2001 10:41 pm

I am hoping someone on this board can help me. I am looking for where to find the diesel fuel prices that Norfolk Southern pays for its fuel. I am looking for this information for a school project that will look at the relationship between diesel fuel prices and NS's stock price. Does anyone have any idea where on the net to find this information. I am looking for either weekly data or monthly data that goes back at least either 100 weeks or 100 months. I would really appreciate any help you could provide.
Thanks,
Eric

You might want to try NSC's home page http://www.nscorp.com/nscorp/html/home.html, or a third-party financial analysis. What they're actually paying for diesel fuel may be propriatary info they'd rather not disclose.

On the NS web page go to the quarterly analyst meetings. They often post chart and discuss the cost of fuel as part of the meeting. Look under "investing in the thoroughbred" and there is also information about their fuel surcharges which are tied to the price of west texas intermediate crude. Look under "doing business with NS" for that info. Last but least look up the annual report. Buried the discussion of the last two years business operations they also discuss fuel prices. The annual report can be downloaded on the web. It does require adobe acrobat to access, but I think you can download that from the NS as well.

Hope this helps.
