A while ago a message was posted looking for engineer caps and clothes. I saw hats on Roaring Camp & Big Trees RR website homepage today. They are available in sizes 6-3/8 - 7-1/2. They also have the elastic banded ones also for those who aren't sure of their hat size. I don't see in the description what the material is, you may want to check if you are planning to use them in locomotive service. Sythetic cheapies don't pass muster.... Living nearby Roaring Camp and frequently visting the operation, I can assure everyone that the quality of the Engineers hats sold there are of top quality hickory stripe sized hats. Hey thanks guys! I wrote that post about a month ago, and am impressed that you remembered. I can see why though, Tough,quality railroad clothing is hard to come by. My clothes last about a day before getting grease smears and dirt blotches,and lord only knows what else gets mixed in. Hats are hardest to come by because there are plenty of cheapies as far as engineer caps go, but real good comfy caps are about as rare as 4-4-0s these days...... I have found several places that carry the striped hats (blue, pink, and even red) over the years, some brands are good, some incredibly crappy. The color that I prefer, and have the most trouble finding, are the plain blue. I ended up paying gift shop prices at Strasburg for the last one. |

Geez guys, don't you know about Transquip of Chalfont, Pa.?! They've been advertising in all the fan mags for years! They carry all kinds of engineer caps (hickory striped, denim, etc.), as well as conductor's hats, badges, buttons, caps, rain caps, half-sleeves, et al.
