The New York Times today has a very nice profile of David Monte Verde, president of the Genesee Valley Transportation family of shortlines and operator of many imppecably maintained Alcos. It's one of the best things on railroading in the general press I've read in a long time (Don Phillips excluded of course). I commend it to your attention.
