It appears that the thievery inflicted on railroad museums and operations both profit and non-profit knows no bounds. Hope they find their stuff. Seth

Got this from the Yahoo! Horn/Whistle group...

Howdy all, Sometime between 8:30pm Thursday, April 26 and 1:00pm Friday April 27th, someone unlawfully removed a set of horns from the Bluegrass Railroad Museums Alco MRS-1 #2086, which was stored At West Versailles, Kentucky. The missing horns are a set of LESLIE 5 chimes (new casting type), Three Chimes Forward, Two chimes reversed. They are painted a light blue, with two sets of distinct stampings on them (one easy to find, the other not so easy to find). These horns were historically relevant to Kentucky. Should they be returned to the museum, no questions will be asked. However, we are offering a reward for information that will lead to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved. BGRM operates a 5 1/2 mile scenic ride through the horse farms of Central KY, and is a Non-Profit, Volunteer based group.

PLEASE....feel free to cross post this message to other relevant groups and persons.

Contact E.M. Bell or the museum if you have any information

Down here in Texas, the problem that everybody has been having with horns coming up missing has been largely attributable to truckers. There a large number of 18 wheelers in the DFW areas sporting leslie and nathan equipment that has been pilfered off units left unattended In one case, a shortline in Fort Worth had a set of horns stolen while the crew was at lunch. Truckers steal buisiness and now the bunch of doped up hooligans are stealing safety hardware.

Darn it!

I was a doped up hooligan in college. I never knew I could make a career out of it. Those college placement offices do a lousy job of letting kids know what is out there. I was very qualified.

Now I am not. Actually, I guess I wasn't really doped up... just drunk. And I was only a petty hooligan.

I'm not anymore.

What I am is someone who values the nature of discussions on this board, and the resepct that sets this board apart from others like Chaski.

So, I would ask that we not disparage any group of people. Are there doped up hooligan truckers? Sure, but probably no more of them than the Ricky Gates of railroading.

And, to be fair, more than a few railfans like to pilfer... even from museums.

I doubt even the most doped up trucker would steal a builders plate, for example. But a hooligan railfan would!

The last time I checked, you couldn't get dope for an Alco complete set.

As anyone who has been in the railroad buisiness can tell you, Illicet drugs are very RARE. The FRA requires the most comprehensive drug test and I can assure you that 100% compliance is not some unattainable goal, but very near absolute fact. Before the Chase wreck, there may have been some dopers and drunks, but you never hear of it anymore cause those who do do get caught. Truckers, on the other hand, benefit from from the loopholes inherent in the almost(compared to RRs)unregulated and unsupervised nature of the industry.
