 Post subject: Conklin's Old Style?
PostPosted: Mon May 07, 2001 5:28 pm

In stripping layers of grunge off the roof of an 1882 wooden car with a soldered flat seam iron roof, I ran across some patches (applied aftermarket) which were stamped:

Conklin's

C1
Old Style

Anybody got any idea what this refers to? Is it a roofing material or were the patches made from recycled cans?

I think Conklin was a pen and ink company in the early part of the twentieth century. They perfected the self-filling ink pen.

Could it possibly be flattened ink cans? I have a corner cupboard from the late 1860's that has been patched on the back by parts of old cans.
