Post subject: Erie Lackawanna Dining Cars
PostPosted: Thu May 17, 2001 3:22 pm

A new organization has been set up called the Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society. It is affiliated with three existing northeast historical societies to own, restore and operate an ex-EL (nee Erie) dining car. I would like to hear from anyone who has any photos or any documents (recipes, orders, manuals, etc.) on either the Erie, DL&W or EL diing car operations.

Thanks,
Tim

Do you happen to know that there also exists an ex-DL&W Phoebe Snow dining car? Lousy exterior condition, great interior (or so I'm told).......

The ex-DL&W car is supposedly well-known in some preservation circles; the current owner (who has been known to lurk on this board) would like to see it preserved but really cannot afford to give it away. If he doesn't come forth himself, get in touch with me and I'll try to match you two up.

I'm on the EL list and this has been discussed a lot. 469 and 470 are still out there, both from 1949 Phoebe. One was recently sold to AOE.

Owner of said car confirmed its sale to AEE in April. Sorry for any false hopes. Now where's the other one, and what shape is IT in?

DLW No. 470 is listed as sold on www.iltransit.com
I'm not sure if this is the one going to AOE, there is a picture of it though.

It is an ex-Erie heavyweight diner-lounge.

While on this topic, does anyone know a source for final dispositions on EL's dining cars?
