Received confirmation this evening that the former B&O E8 #92 has been reported as passing through Cumberland, Md. en route from the B&O Museum to the West Virginia Central at Belington, WV where it will eventually become a static display. The years and Baltimore's vandals were not kind to this loco. In order to prep it for movement, associates (myself included) had to prep this derelict loco for shipment. This involved replacing almost every inch of the loco's air brake piping with new parts and iron pipes (the factory-installed copper pipes, along with massive amounts of the loco's wiring, fell victim to scrap thieves while the loco was in open storage on the Museum's "First Mile"). Under pressure to remove the loco from the Museum before the Grand Re-Opening or see it shoved to the nearby scrappers, the members of the West Va. RR Museum (and one individual in particular) apparently fronted the necessary funds to get the loco repaired enough for shipment just in time.My congratulations to the WVC and best wishes for the future of this loco (now, are you chaps *sure* you knew just what in heck you were getting into?).

Well......... Just returned from week in Cumberland Area and came on to view what I hoped would be a voluminous anount of threads/msgs from the past week. It's a shame that this has happened. As a novice at computers, I am dismayed at the type of people that can create this type of damage. In any event, we saw the E-8 in question, as it was buried in the yard on Saturday, and on Sunday morning was in a shed opposite the turntable getting some kind of attention. It looked curiously odd amongst the high-tech super-power locos. A few fans we encountered informed us of it's destination. If the people at the WVa Central can cosmetically restore it as well as their other equipment, it should be a nice addition.
