From the Rock Island Technical Society's list:Many thanks to all of the RITS members who have provided information, ideas and advice for the restoration of Rock Island caboose 17869 in Tinley Park, Illinois.A local teenager, Mike McLean, was already working on the repainting the caboose for his Eagle Scout project with the cooperation of the local Park District.Currently he is looking for:- photos (color preferred) of 17869 in service, especially those after the 1954-55 rebuilding- interior photos of any 17850-series caboose- identify the hardware inside a caboose and ideas on acquiring or replicating - painting and lettering diagrams, if available- diagrams for the Rock Island herald or the large block style "Rock Island" lettering of the late 1960'sThe car body is in good shape and only a small amount of the wood in the interior had to be replaced.
