The only copper firebox I know of in service in th US is Lady Edith in New Jersey. No doubt they can offer some good advice. Now, if it was a copper clapper........dave

If the sheets get thin how do you repair them? Gas welding, arc welding, how? As copper fireboxes long predate processes like TIG welding, I presume it is not a space age technique.

This is where our friends in the UK can help. Copper fireboxes were all but universal on British steam locos and most preserved locos are still so equipped. Dave H.

Ask for Brian Fanslau at the Boothbay Railway Museum on Maine. They operate 2 foot gauge German built locos with copper fireboxes.

"Dunrobin" at Fort Steele Heritage Town near Cranbrook, B.C. is a 0-4-4T with a copper firebox. They had it repaired within the last couple of years because of firebox problems.Image
