The Reader Engine No.4 is operatinging weekly here at the Mount Dora Scenic Railway. The engine was converted to burn oil, sometime around 1926. They did not apply the typical handle, with notched quadrant with adjustable stop setting. They simply use a brass air brake handle. We are looking to purchase above mentioned handle and quadrant arrangement. edrailco@aol.com |

Why don't you just make one? Automobile flywheels (cut in half, of course)make excellent quadrants! That's what the gentleman used who made the quadrant for our Porter 0-6-0 Tank Engine. Southeastern Railway Museum sa750@boone.net |

A company that specializes in cutting gear teeth can make a quadrant for you. Gear teeth can be cut on any size arch, circle, straight or elipse. Santa Fe did not use a gear quadrant on any of their engines including all the way through the 2900s and 5000s. They used an adjustable wooden rub block. robert@trainorders.com |
