Post subject:  Goin' to Kansas City!

I'm headed to Kansas City for meetings June 13 - June 17. Would be interested in railroad attractions (including static steam display). Will likely need to be accessible in the evening hours (I am supposed to be working after all). Also looking for recommendations for great barbeque, preferably on the Missouri side of town, since that's where they put me up.Thanks in advance!Scott

Also try Lil' Jakes Eat it & Beat It on Grand Av. BBQ. Not too far from KCUS, which is a must visit place too. Mark D.

KC Terminal roundhouse yuppified into offices near union station; Calcasieu Paper 2-6-2 at a casino somewhere, GW 0-4-0T from Longmont, CO is said to still be at International Engineering. If you have access to a car, there are weekend tourist operations at Belton, MO and Baldwin, KS. Also a RR museum at Atchison, KS and a CB&Q 4-8-4 and 4-4-0 in St. Joseph, MO. I had links to these but accidently erased them, don't have time to look again. Not hard to find with Yahoo, however, and www.steamlocomotive.info.

May not be the most exciting thing to most people, but Worlds of Fun (theme park) has a 3' Crown in operation. Of course, it requires admission, but as far as I know it's the largest operating steam locomotive in KC.

No BBQ but worth doing is Lidia's Italian Resturant on the opposite side of the tracks from KC Union Station. Try one of the homemade pasta specials!
