We all do have favorate's in Steam,,,,As for myself it is NKP# 765,,in the New River Gorge,,,between Montgondy,WV,,,,Hilton,WV.. when she is working just too keep the train at speed. Now as for tourist line,,,I would have too say,,,Bellows Falls,Vt either rideing the cab,,,or coach behind a CPR # G-5 at the old Steamtown site between Riverside,,,and Rutland,Vt ,,,,when Steamtown had Steam in the snow.....thanks Pat |

Mine would be from an operation that was years ahead of it's time, the Morris County Central, and the loco would be ex Southern RR # 385, probably one of very few true Southern locomotives left in existence. I can't really come up with a main-line that she ran on during my tenure, but her stint on (what was then) an abandoned portion of the NYS&W RR in northwestern New Jersey would be my choice for the branch line. Seems like things were so much easier then! |

Let's see now, having been around steam engines and railroad for well over 50 years,I've seen and rode a lot off steam powered trains, both here and in UK. It's tough to pick a favorite engine or railroad, but having been around Reading T-1's for 45 years or so,I'd say the T-1's would have to go to the top of the list for US mainline steam locomotives. A second would be the B&O EM-1's,although I just barely remember them. A favorite US branchline engine would be the PRR H-6sb,they were little powerhouses and ran past our backyard when I was a yungin'. Now for UK mainline engines, the GWR 4-6-0's are the ticket in my book, especially the King and Castle Class locomotives. I've had the privelage to ride behind a few and there's something about GWR engines with thier green livery, copper rimmed stacks and the staccato 4 cylinder exhaust. In a UK branch line engine, it has to be the GWR Pannier tank 0-6-0's . They were all compact and business like as well as being fitted with the typical GWR livery and other trappings. There are quite a few others I like as well for various reasons, as I've seen N&W,B&O,NKP,IC,PRR,PRSL,RDG,WM,CM&S&StM(Soo Line),CMStP&P(Milw) steam all in regular service. |
