Here is a photo of restoration work done in the last few weeks. Take a guess as to what you are looking at:

Tim, Obviously you are working on the side sill, lower body (side?) uprights, and side sheets. How did you do your cutting? A friend of mine who is restoring a heavyweight open platform observation has done a fantastic job with a plasma cutter and mig welding. His car looks brand new, there is no visible distortion. |

Let's see - a crusty modernized heavyweight, probably a food-service car or lounge due to the window spacing. Probably not B&O due to wide windows. Could be IC, UP, L&N, or SR, but my guess is a CN lounge.Do I win a free Duner toilet flush pedal if I guess right? |

Yes, it is EL diner 741. You are looking at the kitchen end of the car on the aisle side. The current work is on the side sill, lower body uprights, and the collision posts. The work is being done with a plasma cutter and mig welding. As you can imagine, this is tedious work. We are hoping to have the exterior work done by the end of summer and painted back into EL colors by the fall.Tim Stuyhttp://www.eldcps.org |
