I have a business trip in South Africa later this year. Are steam locomotives being used in daily operation in that nation? If so, where?

I am pretty sure the George-Knysna Line along the Indian Ocean still sees steam. Lovely line with 2-8-4's. I was in SA in 77 and 84...great stuff, if you can find some operating steam. Be careful there as there is a lot of theft.

Sift through this site by Rob Dickinson, and try some S. Africa pages, and contacts there. Enjoy!

PS we have some SA steam images on our web site in GREG's GALLERY.
SA was my favorite place bar none when steam was running there!
