I picked this up off the LETPRESS List (a bulletin board for printers who use letterpress--lead type and all. Given the popularity of this paint it would be good to know if this is actually happening. I am not surprised, but am sorry.We use One Shot for our lettering. It weathers like lead based paints (as expected) streaking down the car side as it chalks and washes down.As I understand it, lead is not illegal, but is being litigated out of existence. The same applies to asbestos. I need to reline a Plymouth loco clutch, which needs asbestos for the correct friction. And asbestos fibers from clutches are not considered dangerous, since they are ground too fine to be dangerous.... but asbestos is too dangerous to be sold...I have located a tractor shop which still will reline with asbestos, I can match colors without lead, but will miss the washing down as the car and lettering weathers. Side note: Before striping old paint we test for lead, and take precautions. We don’t allow the young around (the effect of lead is especially significant when the brain is developing) We are not arrogant, but understand the old materials and use them when possible... |
