Check out this saga as a reminder to clearly keep in mind who is on your team and who isn't. Let's all learn from their plight.

By the way, what are your thoughts about airing news like this publicly?

Finger pointing issues aside, it is probably a good thing for members of many politcally challenged organizations to know about and understand the similar and possibly worse issues facing other organizations.

Basically, these guys are on the wrong coast. If they want to come and volunteer in Savannah I will be pleased to have them, and the management problems will be solved by the buck stopping with me. No politics due to no democratic management.

I wish them the best of luck in their continued pursuit of responsibly caring for a very fine but ill maintained collection. I hope they figure out who is in charge soon and get on with life.

Acutally, Dave, I was just in Griffith Park at the end of April, although oblivious to the situation there. Did wonder what was going on with the M-177 though, but nobody around to discuss it with.

But getting back to the actually part, I was amazed at how the over all state of the collection has been dramatically improved. Everything, with a couple of minor exceptions had been recently painted. A lot of things weren't lettered and it appears cleaning and painting was as far as "restorations" went, but still, a vast improvement over my previous visit two years ago.

It appeared the M-177 hasn't moved or changed, as least not from an exterior view, in the 2 year time frame.

The airing of unpleasant situations is sometimes necessary, and I think this is an excellent example of how to do it when names must be named, and difficult decisions need explanations. I think the author showed the proper restraint from character assassination without sacrificing full coverage, and therefore understanding, of the situation. This is an excellent reminder to all of us that we really don't always know what people are capable of (both good and bad) until situations arise. Special thanks to the originator for sharing this with us.

is one of the relationship between a volunteer association and a public entity.

Personalities and policies will change with time. A hard lesson for any organization working with a public "landlord" no matter how long the relationship has endured.

Asides, how confident can potential donars feel if a particular non-profit is operating under a short term aggreement?

Here, here Dave. I know I sure could use the help and help that is obviously talented AND dedicated. Sometimes it puzzles me how emotional people can get over railroad preservation. During the various "discussions" I've been involved in at tourist operations, I use the ice breaker that we need to remember that our fighting involves railroad equipment, not our lives. Also, we are volunteers, and when the "fun hobby" looses the "fun" we should leave, or at least take a break for a while. Tourist RR burnout! Been there, done that.
