Hello AllIn my never ending quest to meet and share a few laughs with fellow RYPN’ers, a good friend of mine (from the M&H RR) will be traveling to Connecticut to visit the Danbury RR Museum, RMNE and the Valley Railroad this weekend. Any of you fine folks going to be out and about that weekend? Give me a shout at davecrosby at verizon.net if you’ll be around. I met a great number of folks on a Southern trip last year and would love to shake hands with a few more. Now before you mention it, I know I’m leaving out the trolley museums and the CERM, but there’s just not enough days in a weekend to hit everything.A few questions for the knowledgeable here:What is the Valley running these days, the 97?How about the Naugatuck (RMNE)?Is the RMNE storage yard near Old Saybrook still there?I’ve always been impressed by the sheer number of preservation efforts in Ct. and I’m looking forward to finally seeing some of it in person. The Valley was the first full size steam train I rode on and can’t wait to relive a part of my childhood, save for the cinder I got in my eye in 1980.Dave Crosby |

Dear Dave: No. 97 will to be running at the VRR this weekend and beyond (Saturday is the begining of our summer schedule - 7 day per week until Labor Day), see our website for timetable and fares. I'll be at the railroad Saturday and Sunday from about 9am until 11am to do water analysis, make repairs & sign off on inspection reports...Look me up if you are there early enough. Have a good trip! Dave - This weekend, both of our serviceable locomotives New Haven 529 (1950 Alco RS-3) and ex-P&W 2203 (1977 GE U23B) will be running on the Naugy. 529 will be running on "engineer for an hour" sessions on Saturday, and Sunday will be available for public walk-through and pictures at Thomaston Station. On Sunday, dads ride free when accompanied by a child!Trains depart Thomaston at 12 noon and 2PM on both Saturdays and Sundays. See our website for more details.- AT Kromerhttp://www.rmne.org |
