Does anyone know of a website that has somewhat recent photos of the tracks on the hill out of Madison, Indiana? I stumbled across a site several months ago, but forgot to bookmark it, and now I can't locate it. It showed that the tracks were still in place, but they weren't in very good shape and weeds were starting to overgrow it in some places. I read somewhere that it was last used around '92 when the power plant on the river needed some equipment delivered. Any help would be appreciated.

The most recent issue of THE KEYSTONE, published by the PRRTHS has a terrific article with photos on Madison Hill.

The Madison Hill is the steepest standard gauge grade in the U.S. at 5.89%, although it's not currently in use.http://www.oldmadison.com/madview2.htmlThe Reuben Wells, which survives today in the Indianapolis Children's Museum, was the first locomotive to conquer the hill via adhesion, replacing the cog system that had existed before.http://www.indiana.edu/~librcsd/etext/h ... The Madison Hill is indeed in service. It is run by the Madison Railroad, which is owned by the City of Madison, Indiana. They have recently received Indiana grants and have been upgrading the trackage on the hill. The Madison Railroad, and its General Manager Cathy Hale, is very active in the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association.Gary LandrioStone Consulting & Design, Inc.

It's good to hear that the track is back in service, or will be soon. Are there any new customers at the bottom of the hill to warrant the upgrade, or is it because of the switch to the new weight limits for railcars?
