Sitting half taken apart, exactly where it has been for the last 6 years. It's not moving today, tomorrow, or for several days. There is still a lot of work to do on it.

Hi,Reading 2100 is in Washington State.Reading 2101 is at the B&O museum as AFT 1Were is Reading 2101?Isn't there also a 2124?Are there any other Reading 21xx 's?ThanksDoug vV |

I won't mention any names, but apparently it was one of my former highschool teachers from almost 30 years ago.

Last night I posted a request for current movement information along with my current concerns on whether 2100 would make it to the west coast on both Chaski and the discussion board at Altamont Press. I received an almost immediate reply from one of the principles of the organization thanking me for pointing out the problems and making what amounted to a personal guarantee that the trips will be running.My gut feeling is that while not everything will be anywhere close to the original plan that these trips are going to happen in some form.My response to him is below: Thank you for your note. Your offer is appreciated and entirely unnecessary as it could set a very expensive precedent. I have been involved to some degree or another in preservation and excursions since I was a grad student in the late 1950s and I have come to believe that the Army's (informal) First Rule of Operational Planning applies here: "There will be a glitch and it will not be lonely." As I said I am a professional skeptic and one of my firm's areas of expertise is unwinding failed deals. Unfortunately shortlines and the preservation community are rife with these and a certain number seem to have never been intended to go beyond the collect money phase. When you first went public there were a number of things which did not feel right, and I mentioned several of them on RYPN. To your organization's great credit most of them were addressed within hours. What I think is the wisest thing you did was have Ticketmaster handle the sales as that provides a clear comfort level on the safety of the investment.I for one don't care if it has a red stripe, and is lettered in Latin. What is important to me is that it is still a T-1 and the generation that is now bracketing their teens will have a chance to see it perform as I did almost half a century ago. I will not be out there with the grandchildren in July, however my significant other has made it very clear that she would not object to a long weekend in Seattle and Tacoma when we go out to the west coast in the fall and that she is willing to indulge my desire to ride behind 2100 again as long as she gets a good meal out of it.GME |
