This Saturday, June 25th, the East Stroudsburg Railroad Tower Society will hold the "DL&W Railroad Funfest Day." The event will feature tours of the wooden 1908 railroad tower and its lever thrown interlocking machine. In addition to many displays, vendors, and model railroads, there will also be a Phoebe Snow Contest. The event runs from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the grounds surrounding the railroad tower and Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg, PA, minutes off of Interstate 80. Named for the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad, which served East Stroudsburg, PA, the event will be fun for the whole family. To tell the story of the “Road of Anthracite,” the Underground Miners http://www.undergroundminers.com/ will bring a display of historic anthracite mining tools and photographs. Other exhibits will include the operating models of the Central Jersey O-Scalers http://home.att.net/~prr-k4s/. Although many other displays and vendors will be on hand all day, 10:00 AM is set aside for the Phoebe Snow look-alike contest http://www.poconorecord.com/2005/lifestyl/lf052405.htm. Please come and attend this fun filled and historical event which will help raise funds for the restoration of the tower.The event will run rain or shine. The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society will have a table at this event in case anyone out there wants to meet us and see photos of our effort.Hopefully in future years we will bring our cars to the event! |
