At Hammond, Indiana. Not sure when these were taken, but it sure could use some friends:http://gelwood.railfan.net/nkp/nkp-s624amr.jpghttp://gelwood.railfan.net/nkp/nkp-s ... 624cmr.jpg |

As those who have actually been there might be able to attest, Hammond, Indiana itself could probably use a few friends too.Having happened to see video last night of this very loco in action, I'm a little chagrined. Maybe next time I pass through the area I should check up on her. |

From the photos, I don’t see a loco in trouble. It has a decent paint job, it has had its asbestoses removed and there is evidence of a fence. While it isn’t under cover, and isn’t in a pretty landscaped area, there is evidence of some care. Rather than speculating, does anyone have any info on the current ownership, stewardship and plans for the locomotive? |

I've seen park engines in worse shape, I think the appearance of this loco (or any park engine) would be much improved if the headlight, mars light, and number boards were cosmetically restored, even temporarily with modern materials. Just a point of interest, the #624 was featured in Ron Ziel's 'Tilight of Steam Locomotives' book as a sad example of park engine vandalism as far back as the early '60s. |

It was supposedly sold to an individual a year or two ago by the city. Perhaps someone remembers his name. I believe he has bought and sold other steam engines including, maybe, the LS&I one used on the WMSRR.James |
