Just out of curiosity, what ever happend to the Mount Union Connecting Railroad, operating the Mount Union end of the East Broad Top. The website showed them doing a bunch of work down there, acquiring a small diesel, but then, i never heard anything else....Are they operating, are they moving freight?? Just wondering if anyone has any info....Ken |

I asked someone this weekend the same question and they said that nothing has been going on. |

I understand that the potential customer was a transloader and opted for service by another nearby shortline to the east. |

They have been making progress and having setbacks. The work on their locomotive's diesel engine was completed, but startup was delayed by batteries for it being backordered. They finally arrived and then the turbocharger was found to be blown. They have a line on a replacement but didn't have it yet last I heard.Meanwhile, this spring they rebuilt a few hundred feet of track beyond what had been done a couple years ago.Last I heard the transloader in question (if it is the same one) was transferring in Lewistown, but Mount Union was 20 miles closer to their operation and would be preffered. |
