I just got back from a trip to Arizona, traveling down through Boulder City to Flagstaff, Arizona. We stayed overnight at the Hacienda Casino, where for years, a Shay stood on a rock face while a mining ng Lokie advertised the casino outside the building. Both are now gone. Asking in the casino, nobody -not desk clerks, managers, or any other personnel, could tell me what happened to either locomotive. The Shay was moved due to the heavy road construction around Hoover Dam, but nobody knows where. Anyone here have factual information on it?BTW, I also stopped in Kingman, AZ, to look at the ex SF 4-8-4 displayed there. THe loco is intact. Her cab has the gauges, the bell, the whistle, and all other accoutrements. She is sealed with heavy gauge screening welded onto her and across the cab. Add the dry Arizona weather to that and you have a perfectly preserved steam locomotive, loved and honored by Kingman. Similarly, Flagstaff's little 2-8-0, #25, and 2-6-6-2, #12, displayed at the Pioneer Village, are in near perfect shape. Each engine is well painted and greased. Aside from cab fixtures and some glass, the engines appear to need only a fire. Well done, Arizona!

There was a report six to 12 months ago on either this board or the ng discussion board about the Shay being sold along with the remaining box cars, etc up on the hill. Seem to recall that it may have been an individual or group in California that obtained the equipment.I recall noting the significance of one of the box car bodies. While the SPCRR group got a Monterey & Salinas box car body for providing a T-111 look-alike box, the other car is just as significant. The other car also saw service on the Nevada Central and was built by Billmeyer & Smalls. Seems to me the person noting the move of the Shay was more interested in the locomotive and may not have cared about the freight car.Maybe someone call provide more information.

They were purchased by the group restoring the old West Side Lumber operation in Tuolumne, CA. The Shay is being restored; I am not sure about the Porter dinky. Their website (don't have the URL handy) illustrates their progress to date.-James Hefner Hebrews 10:20a Surviving World Steam Project
