Sad news from my father in law Warren Willis in Lynchburg:"As has become my habit, I went over to Riverside Park this morning hoping to see someone working on the train so I could get an update on the project. I had not seen anyone there for two months and no progress made since early April when the caboose frame was painted. However this morning I found that someone had gained access to the enclosure and smeared paint all over one side of the tender. From the color I would judge that it was primer that had been left on the job site. The scaffolding had been pulled back from the cab and a blue tarp hung to obscure what I assume were obscenities. I have enclosed a picture to show you the extent of the damage."ImageI'm using this incident as a needed reminder to send a donation to this project. THis particular locomotive is located in what may be the least accessible part of the park. It's way out of the way for visitors. In future, perhaps landscaping might make this area more open to the public and the locomotive will be well lit. I hate to say it, but paint vandalism is probably the least of the horrors that railroad displays can endure. I'm not condoning it, but worse stuff comes out of matchbooks. Thanks for the update Eric. This particular Kanawha has been a the poster child for park restoration over the past few years.

thanks for the update. Damn shame, something finally is being done to take care of what had become a major eyesore, and some morons have to ruin it.
