Post subject:  Maine Governor Announces Calais Branch Rail Removal Plan

July 15, 2005 This day in Machias, Governor John Baldacci announced his administrations plan to convert the Calais Branch line from Washington Junction to Ayers Junction to a multi use trail. See link below. The Downeast Rail Heritage Preservation Trust is still actively working on developing excursion service in the Washington Junction to Brewer segment of the corridor. We would like to clarify any misinformation and reiterate that the Washington Junction to Brewer, as well as the Ayers Junction to Calais segments are being preserved for rail use under their plan. We are currently working with Stone Consulting and Designon ROW rehabilitation within the Washington Junction to Brewer segment. Stone is also assisting in the development of our business plan. To date all figures look very good and show that this is a viable plan. We will be announcing our plans further once our lease with MaineDOT for the Washington Junction to Brewer segment is finalized. http://www.bangornews.com/news/template ... 6546&z=177 Tom TestaPresidentDowneast Rail Heritage Preservation Trust
