1361 Crew Hard at Work Last Night

Last night @ 4:55, Bill Fredrickson and his crew were still hard @ work on the K-4, with no apparent interest in quitting time. All around the shop, there are small, but positive signs of a project making steady progress. New welds on the tender, shiny new eccentric rods, and more and more silver rivets visible against the primer colored engine and work being done on different parts of the engine. I thought it might be nice if "inquiring minds" had some public testament that even a casual observer can see that the 1361 crew is making progress, especially given the aroused passions and vigorous discussions this engine and its restoration have engendered in recent years.P.S. Don't underestimate this dedication, especially on a sticky July day in the old DL&W backshop.

It is great to hear something positive for a change. I hope to hear more on the 1361 and 3713 from my son later this week. He was fortunate enough to attend the NRHS Rail Camp this year. We just left him off this afternoon at the University of Scranton. A number of friends, including T. J. Gaffney, helped Mike to get the scholarship to attend Rail Camp this year. I told Mike to check out the activity in the shop and to check on my old friend, NKP 759! Hope to have more information next weekend when we go back to Steamtown to pick him up.

Ron,I'm sure you'll son will have a blast at RailCamp, I attended last year (Gee, can't believe that was a year ago!) and it was a great week. During most of the free time at the park the campers are just released and have the run of the place, Its really neat having a "all access pass"-Justin Franz

Just spoke today to the individual at the FRA who is responsible for steam boilers in the US and there will be a meeting of the minds at Steamtown on Sept 1 to put the issue of our steam dome repair to rest once and for all. Assuming we can come to some sort of consensus on this nagging issue, that will clear the way for closing up the boiler and re-tubing her! I'll keep everyone informed.Thanks
