I believe that the last ALCO was 9406. Your date seems right for that. |

Dagnabbit, I just had my Juniata/Altoona Shops master list a day or so ago.......Lumping Altoona and Juniata into one category (like Lima and Lima-Hamilton), the last official locomotive would have been PRR T1 5524, assuming that they were turned out with loco # matching chronological order. (Altoona also cranked out the tenders for the Baldwin-built T1's, 5525-5547, which were built as late as mid-1946.) I believe the build date for 5524 would have been around Novenber 1945; I am ignoring anything else Altoona did anything with, such as a couple later battery locos for switching and assembly of many EMD and GE diesel kits in the NS era. |

BLH built 42" gauge 2-8-0s for Ecuador in 1953. A couple are still running. |

Lima's last US locomotive is commonly thought to be NKP 779. However, L&N 2-8-4 1990 was shipped June 11, 1949, almost a month after the NKP engine which was delivered on May 13, 1949. The L&N engines had serial numbers just ahead of the NKP's so if you go be serial number, the NKP was the last but if you go be delivery date, the L&N engine was the last.Source: "Lima The History" by Eric Hirsimaki |

As I understand it Heislers last locomotive was built for stock and eventually sold to the Middle Fork Railroad in Elamore WVa some time in the early 40's. It was a 70 ton (this fact is argued over but I do know it's less than 90 tons) 3 truck model. It currently resides in Durbin WVa in kit form, since june 12th 2004. |

Yes, and I was going to point out that the engine is on display at the Baltimore and Ohio Museum. I have heard that there is some talk of returning her to operation. And I also came out in 1950 and I am still in operation. Several parts recently overhauled and running fine now!Ted Miles |
