Hello all, I don't post many topics but lurk here quite a bit. I took a very spur of the moment trip to the Strasburg Railroad after unsuccessfully looking for the West Chester Railroad yesterday and thought I'd share what I saw. I've been to Strasburg many times in the 20 years I've been on this earth. It was more recently that I focused on the equipment and the train ride itself than in past times. I was quite impressed except for a few minor things. First of all, the equipment is beautiful. It always has been. Our train was pulled by Engine 90 which looked and sounded great. The scenery is amazing. The train crew was very presentable and courteous. I could have not have been more pleased with the train ride. When the train arrived back at Strasburg, I had to use the restroom which was quite possibly the cleanest public restroom I've ever seen. Definitely a plus. Unfortunately, there were a few minor things that I wasn't too pleased about. My girlfriend and I went to the Dining Car restaurant where the staff seemed to be a little spaced out and really not trying to move the people through. Once we received our food, the tables were not very clean. Also, for the price of the food, I would have expected a larger meal. Other than that, these were the only downers for day. After eating, we walked across the street to the Railroad Museum of Pa. The ticket person greeted us friendly and kindly asked us to discard our beverages before entering the display hall. That left an impression on me that she cares about her job. Definitely a plus. Upon entering the hall, it never ceases to amaze me. The locomotives are top notch. Conrail GP30 2233 was open for display so we climbed aboard where there was a person watching the cab. She was extremely knowledgeable and very polite. I found it easy to keep a conversation and not so easy to move on. Upon climbing down from the locomotive, my girlfriend and I tested the new simulator. The display itself is well presented but I wasn't too impressed with the train ride itself. Not a big deal because I know it's not exactly geared for adults. Outside there were four pieces of equipment open for display. It was nice to sit down for a minute and relax in the Reading Crusader obs car. When we returned inside, we walked around for probably another 45 minutes when the museum began to close. As we were walking through the hallway out of the display hall, there were a few angry employees talking loudly about how stupid the people who visit the museum are. This left me a bit unhappy but I put myself in their feet. I've worked with the public and sometimes it's not fun. All in all, it was a great day. I had such a good time, I wouldn't mind coming back next week with my camera. I would definitely recommend this trip to anybody. The scenery is great and equipment is even greater. J.T.
