The operational 70-tonners, the ticket office boxcar, etc. were all moved out in a funeral train before the yard was torn up and the turntable removed and stored. All that equipment is now stored up at Unity. The turntable pit is filled in and the pit walls removed.I don't think they have yet removed the very last of the main track pending Maine DOT approval and possible STB complications, but for all intents and purposes the B&ML is out of Belfast, back to the city line. That could be very close and could have already happened. There is an active offer on the table from New England Rail to acquire the B&ML; that's been written up and links are in "Flimsies" to the Waldo newspaper. No money has actually changed hands however. The railroad is not currently operating any excursions, and freight service stopped entirely about four years ago.Until that offer and possibly others are resolved, there are no equipment sales. www.waldo.villagesoup.com is a good online source of daily reporting on the topic, they have a report on the scene about every 2-3 weeks. |

Do not hold your breath on the B&ML offer. There are some screws loose somewhere - see the New England Railways website. It is in the Twilight Zone. |
