Post subject:  Lexington KY Information

Years ago when I was in college I took some shots of a pair of coaling towers in the CSX yard, as well as a couple of steam engine cabs that were being used as trackside shelters. Do these still exist? This yard is close to the big cemetary. I've looked at the overheads from Google etc, but those are dated and I wanted to make sure they were still standing before I went up there to shoot them. Thanks in advance.

All of what you mention has been removed. The cabs that where used as switchmans shantys where removed by CSX several years ago, and the L&N coaling towers where felled early this year by R.J. Corman, the new owner of the yard. The former C&O coaling tower in Lexington still exist, and is still in use by a concrete company that now occupies the former Netherland yard. The "modern" C&O Lexington depot also still exist, now used as office space by a engineering firm.
