Folks,

With all the chat about the C&TS, I wonder if there is any way that i train shed could be built at the Antonito end of the line to shelter some of the historic equipment, there is a snowblower and a whole bunch of narrow gauge freight equipment around and about.

I would leave the Chama end as a working museum, so that is not the place to preserve museum equipment long term.

Your thoughts please. Ted Miles

The operator (RGRPC) and the support group (Friends....with unfortunately WAY too much overlap at the BoD level for my taste) seem to have a pretty good idea of what THEY want to do, and seem to be only marginally amenable to outside suggestions (probably because they are offered so many). So, while it might well be a wonderful idea, :) ...it may have to wait for someone "in house" to propose it. :(

They seem to be having a bit of a monetary/financial planning problem anyway, as the states' contribution (the C&TS is owned jointly by NM and Colo who are supposed to fund "capital improvements") is being held up by the veto of an appropriations bill.

Having covered storage in Antonito has been discussed, and money was made available for a simple structure. However, even in Antonito, the Colorado SHPO needed to approve any building or changes to the site. In the meantime other opportunities arose to use that money in the form of keeping the locomotives running.

This is a good idea and those of us in the membership have hope that something will happen soon. Thanks for thinking of us, and if you have any specific ideas on how the Antonito site could be developed to include additional storage, yet resemble a narrow gauge terminal, I'm sure I'm not the only one to be interested.
