Just wanted to say I enjoyed the brief on the "Royal Hudson." Marvelous looking engine. It was good to be able to click on the smaller image and get a decent sized enlarged image I don't have it with me but there was an excellent TRAINS article from the 60s or 70s on the CME (is that what they called them in Canada?) of CPR during the time of the Jubilees and Hudsons. I know it doesn't matter worth beans but I wonder if 2860 might regain her CPR lettering and lose the BC plate on her front. Just a thought.Joshua, with images of 2816 and 2860 double-heading in my head. |

It is good to see something positive is happening to this great old girl. It is interesting to read that she is getting front and rear tube sheet work and also some side sheet work and then go on to say the boiler is fine and it is a routine tube job. I guess major work is a matter of perspective. |

Gosh, what happened? Last I knew there were no funds to help the 2860 and she was parked at Squamish. This is wonderful news. Joshua, I share your vision of double-headed Hudsons. |

Tom,Let me assure you that we take our stewardship of Royal Hudson #2860 very seriously. In approaching any project we adopt a positive attitude and proceed with caution realizing that this is serious business. We can certainly get enough negative feedback without trying very hard at all. Before we started on the work to 2860 we conducted an exhaustive survey of the locomotive, met with the regulatory authorities, reviewed existing documentation and drawings and had it looked over by an expert in the field. We have to conform to the regulations of Transport Canada which are very similar to the FRA regs, so we have to do it properly. One of our regs requires us to install an event recorder no less!We are very fortunate that the locomotive was very well maintained by Al Broadfoot and the BC Rail steam crew over the years and thus we are able to focus on the boiler work. The running gear and the tender are in very good condition. We will add the "black box", the diesel MU controls and other appliances required for operation on todays railroads. Thus far we have on hand the new tubes and flues and have ordered new superheaters and other small appliances that are needed. We hope to have the locomotive operational in 2006, although a firm date has yet to be determined. We welcome any and all suggestions and assistance that is offered and, of course, donations of hard cash are allways welcome. |

It wouldn't surprise me if a decision is made not to put the CP logo on the 2860 when it runs (maybe next year?) --- particularly if it runs on CN.How bout a simple "Royal Hudson" ?Bob H |
