Many years ago, Model Railroader ran photos of both this and 4960 in gold paint as part of their special (April issue, of course) article documenting the "Undecorated Railroad", whose paint scheme was ever-popular with model makers but apparently was seldom actually modeled. Also included were several demonstrator diesels and barely-marked cars. I would presume a subsequent follow-up would include a lot of diesels being ship ped from EMD and GE in gray primer; I've actually seen someone running a model of a NS diesel with just a sloppy stencil on the cabside with "NS" and the number.

5632 was first painted gold for the 100th anniversary of the Chicago to Aurora mainline in 1964. She ran Chicago to Aurora and return trips on May 20 and May 23, 1964. Her last public outing was later on in 1964 (late October or early November) out of Kansas City for the 50th anniversary of the Kansas City Terminal. The was painted gold for that occasion too.Don C.
