A different artist's rendition, not shown in the online version but in the paper edition, showed a landscape with the new museum on the left, the tracks in the niddle and the Lowey-designed Roanoke depot (now the Link Museum) lurking off to the right. What was nore surprising, to those hawk-eyed enough to notice, was the portrayal of three trains on the tracks: Two freight trains headed by Conrail blue locos, the set on the right being a pair of GE B40-8s (hey, completely plausible) bracketing what is obviously a British Rail Class 47 in early-1970's yellow-nose BR dark green (Brunswick green, anyone?) paint with blanked headcode! Worse, the 47 is even accurately proportionately smaller than its track mates. And there's also a N&W double position-light signal in front of those trains.My neck is still recovering from the triple-take I did yesterday.

My 2 cents,Well the historic downtown is going to look kinda unhistoric after that goes in but if the powers that be want to modernize Downtown Roanoke what can I say.Andrew

So that's what that little yellow and dark box was in the middle. I thought it might be an under-scaled VIA F40.The current sight is a parking lot with some turn-of-the-century buildings at the southwest corner. They are scheduled to survive at this point AFAIK.
