From the Steam Locomotives of British Columbia Yahoo group, news of a narrow gauge Porter saddletank, apparently on its way to Ontario:Recently a BC steam locomotive has found a new owner and new home. The little Detroit Yukon Mining Co. #1 locomotive that was on display at Whippletree Junction for many years and then relocated to private property in the Mill Bay/Shawnigan Lake area, was recently bought by Dave Gould of Ontario.Over the years it has been neglected by its previous owner. Dave is going to be restoring it, and hopefully, to operational condition!After the restoration, Dave hopes to visit 3-foot lines with the locomotive. Could there be a chance that it may make a visit at the BC Forest Discovery Center?For some backgound...The Detroit Yukon Mining Co. Operated at Bear Creek (East of Dawson). The company had four identical steam locomotives with serial numbers 3022, 3023, 3024, and 3025 and were numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, respectively. All four H.K. Porter locomotives were 7-ton 0-4-0 saddle-tank locomotives. 24-inch wheels, 6x10 inch cylinders and a 48 inch wheelbase. The #4 is on static display at the Dawson City Museum and #3 is in Alaska, but in very poor shape. It's unknown where the #2 ended up. In 1965, #1 was purchased by Roger Brammall of Mill Bay from the Yukon Consolidated Gold Corp. and stored at Mill Bay, then at Whippletree Junction, and most recently, at Mill Bay again.I will be updating my website with the new information and since this one is outside of the province now, I will list it under "Other BC Locis."
