I did not have to register again to read this, but you might. Doesn't mention much about the RR, but sounds like the old place is becoming a bit yuppified from its farming/ranching/railroading past, not that that is necessarily bad:http://travel2.nytimes.com/2005/09/30/travel/escapes/30hour.html |

A "bit" yuppified? Nice article talks about where to eat and mountain biking but no mention of the train and it is bad. The D & S has already spent lots of money on smoke scrubbers for the enginehouse and the local clean air people are nosing around even though the air meets all of the standards. It won't be long before the D & S will use propane to get the train out of town and then swith to coal ;>)Mining and ranching are already under attack through out the west, can steam locomotives be far behind? |

I've been to Durango. To call it a "bit yuppified" is like saying your wife is a little bit pregnant. I still love the train, but you can keep the town of Durango. WAY to yuppified for me... |

the yuppiness brings riders, lots of em, and the NYTimes piece prominently featured a nice picture of the 481. |
