Post subject: Brass Eagles, Candlesticks, and maybe Antlers!
PostPosted: Wed Jun 27, 2001 11:37 pm

Now that I have finally gotten the opportunity to be at my computer after having been away on the road with 5288, here are some thoughts to rattle some of ya'll's chains...

Behind the Famous, the 5288 will make the most stylish appearance in a green party dress that has been seen in the Southland since 1953. John Craft, I have been waiting months to interject the thoughts of doubleheaded locomotives in Virginia Green. That is, of course, in consolation to some, after we have a freight doubleheader in black.

Only the 2716, big 610, and 750 could come as close, but, hey, they were in black. 5288 will be giving a green light to styling that only Southerners can give. The Southern may not have owned her in her regular service life, but the ghosts of Coster, Ferguson, Finley, Pegram, and Spencer will approve of her new appearance readily. If the Southern had bought some heavier medium sized Pacifics, they would have been classed Ps-6, following the P-5 class. Even the 1401 might get jealous of the newcomer to the the Southland. Suggestions on whether the antlers will work, and what about black cats or Masonic emblems..? :-) LOL!

Bravo TVRM!! Hey, it's only paint!! I can't wait to see a green Pacific!!

The Canadians have shown us what they can do with one of "our own" (2100), we'll have to show them how to make a steamer look good!! LOL

Best of luck!

Sorry Mike, "little" 610 and 4501 don't count. A "black doubleheader" to me means 630 leading 4501.

Looking forward to the day. In the meantime, I'll reserve judgement on this Canadian interloper, and simply point out that AGS rostered a Ps4 numbered 6688, leaving the rest to your imagination. ;-)

If you're gonna have Masonic emblems, you have to have a crewman who is "bound by the Mystic Tie." when we took Reader #4 to Mississippi to film "O Brother where art thou?", the engine crew was 100%Lodgemen, so we hung a brass Shriners Crescent and Scimitar under the headlight.

Y'all get the old gal up and runnin', make her a homage to all of our Ancient Brethren who worked the rough and rugged roads in the South, and now reside the Grand Lodge(Roundhouse?) Above, where the Supreme Archetect of the Universe Presides.

Mike,

If you want Masonic, why not go all the way:

I got a color print somwhere that I can dig out of a Ps2 at Spencer painted for a Masonic special (remember, the social club for the mgrs. of all these shops was the local lodge). It has a desert scene painted over the whole side of the tender...pyramid, camel, etc....just need a good artist!

Good luck with her. Jim Wrinn

John,

What do you think I meant??? (personally, though, the thought of 630 doesn't do much for me...)
But, there seem to be others who have attachments to low-drivered 2-8-0's with big grate areas....

The honorable and talented Billy Byrd is among the fraternity...

But others shouldn't get offended at the notion if it doesn't suit you, as Mr. Soule will make the ultimate decisions on decor. I just thought it would be interesting to see a locomotive so adorned as Southern men did so many moons ago...

Jim,

Hey, that's really neat. I want to see it sometime, perhaps during ARM/TRAIN.
