Does anyone have any insight into the status of the project on this locomotive? The pics on their site - http://www.bsfsry.com/steamloco/kandt14.htm suggest an ambitious project professionally done. |

That's a very nice webpage for that brutish locomotive that we never knew too much about. Thanks for posting it. |

The work done on this baby is amazing! This has to be one of the most complete restorations underway in the US. Also check out the passenger car page to see a couple of nice cars built up from flatcars. WOWSERS! |

Tom,This engine was purchased by the Morehead and North Fork Railroad about 1955 from the Union Railway in Pennsylvannia. It was traded in on an Alco S1 #16 about 1964. In 1968 it was sold to an amusment park known as Tombstone Junction at Cumberland Falls. It ran there until the late 80's and was sold at an auction in 1995 to the folks who run the K&T railway at Sterns. The engine is getting about the same treatment as NKP 765 with new flue and tube sheets and a 100% new firebox. It also is receiving a new tender tank and rebuilt frame. It will also have a new smokebox. This engine is one of the largest 0-6-0's left. It has the distinction of being one of two steam locomotives left from the Union Railway and one of three steamers left from the Morehead and North Fork Railroad. The project is progressing slow but nicely. The folks are in hopes that the engine will be finished in a few years.I hope that this helps your curiosity. I look forward to seeing it run again.Take Care,JD Johnson, Morehead and NorthFork Railroad Historian |
