What happind to D&M RS2 466. This is the first
RS 2 built, and is on of the first of three road switchers in the United States, the others being an Milwaukee Road RSC2, and Columbus & Greenville AS416 601?
The last owner, Pioneer Railroad Corporation had included this engine in a large scale disposition of locomotives.
The 466 was built in April 1946 by ALCO. It's number represents the year and month in which it was delivered. It retured to ALCO in 1959 for a rebuilt and continued to serve the D&M until the mid 1970's. The engine was sold to the Tuscola & Saginaw Bay Railroad, which primarly operates former New York Central and Ann Arbor trackage in Eastern and Central Michigan. It was sold by the Tisby in the Mid 80's to the Michigan Shores, operates former PRR and MC trackage of Sturgis, Michigan, and was in operation until at least 1998.
Also don't forget that the LSR also has S2 646 for sale. This engine also was part of the dieselization of D&M and was delivered in June, 1946. It had been stored for several years but was operation in 1999 when it was leased to National Gypsom at Port Gypsom, Michigan. It was latter returned and is now for sale
