Post subject:  Coast Starlight on Tehachapi Loop SB, Sun., Oct. 23!

According to reliable sources, Amtrak Train #11, the southbound Coast Starlight, will go over Tehachapi Loop on Sunday, October 23! This re-route is account of some very necessary track work the UP is doing between Oakland, CA, and San Jose, CA, which is preventing trains from using that section of track. There is another parallel route in the East Bay (the Milpitas Line), but that is FRA excepted track, and occupied passenger trains cannot use it. Mr. Gunn has to get his private car to LA before that track work is done, so....rare mileage for Amtrak. :) :)Arrow has not yet been updated, so you cannot buy tickets for this extremely rare-mileage detour - yet - but pleae wait until later today (Fri., Oct. 21). Here is how one Trainorder.com member put it:> Date: October 20, 2005 22:01> Re: 11(22) Via BFD> Author: WatchingAlways> Arrow will be updated Friday. All of this is "short notice". > Mr. Gunn's itinerary for the Presidential Safety and Service> Awards trip was established before the trackwork surprise.URL for this fascinating thread:http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,1021227Hope lots of people get photos of this VERY rare move overThe Loop - if it happens. Inside sources say it will! :) :)Margaret (SP fan)(Rode over Tehachapi Loop in 1984 behind the SP 4449 - "World's Fair Daylight".)
