I have a photo and negative of Chicago & Eastern Illinois #222 Dated 10/25/49. It was taken in Chicago possibly at the 1949 Chicago Railroad Fair (poor scan attached). It had been restored to its early 1900s appearance. Other engines that were on display partially appear in the background. The #222 supposedly belonged to a local historical society at that time, and somehow all that managed to survive are the drivers at CMSI. Does anybody know the story of why the engine was scrapped after it was donated and restored?
