Several NRHS conventions or were held in the 1960's which included "special events" at the Ft. Eustis facility. TVRM is looking for movies, slides, photos, etc. of US Army Transportation Corps #610 in use at the base for use in an forthcoming historical video. At one time 610 was sublettered as "The Green Mountaineer" on the Ft. Eustis MG&B* RR. Can anyone help? *MG&B = Main Gate & Back |

JMJ Productions had some footage of (I think) the 610, 611, and 606 operating on the base with freight and passenger trains both double and single headed. Wether or not this is the event of which you speak I don't know. If you don't have this footage, email or pm and I'll look it up next time I get the chance to raid my father VHS collection. Ben |

It's really not a specific event we're looking for...just anything with 610. I know there was a tripleheader in 1966 with 612, 611 & 608* (among other lashups of different years), but we're searching for anything with 610 included. The fine folks at the Kalmbach Library (NMRA) dug out some slides yesterday of 610 in storage at Ft. Eustis, but we're looking for action shots. The JMJ video sounds interesting (what is the title?)...can someone check that and let us know if 610 is shown?*Ron Ziel's book "Steam in the '60s" was thumbed through at NMRA and it shows this event.Although all the USATC locos were nearly identical units, each had its own individual "personalities" through variations of bell mountings, headlight looks, numberplate and/or number painting locations, etc. Of course there were two 'extra special' locos: 610 as the final BLH steam locomotive (and NOT a S160 as the others) and 611 with its poppet valve system. BTW: We may have a need for 611 pix in the future so those would be appreciated as well. |
