I've read that the Napa Wine Train is still being challenged by its neighbors, even after all these years. Can anyone elaborate on this? Was this track officially abandoned by SP before the wine train got it? bobyar2001@yahoo.com |

According to the history page on the wine train website, the SP operated it for 102 years, until 1987. But I don't remember much [any?] activity on it during visits I made to the valley in the early/mid 80's. beast@mc.net |

Suggest that you look at news item posted today on the Klambach TRAINS.COM website. The railroad has been trying to get a platform, etc. to unload passengers at St. Helena where they run around the train. The city does not want the train passengers in its little 6,000 people town. The railroad tried to get the Calif. PUC to give them a favorable ruling. It also seems that many of the locals in the valley do not want the train to have additional stops. I guess they figure the train would favor certain wineries over others. I guess they also figure that the highway conditions keep visitorship down. BN bnorden@gateway.net |
