From the Heritage Canada website:Roundhouse, E&N Railway,Victoria, British ColumbiaThe 10-stall roundhouse on the Esquimalt to Nanaimo (E&N) Railway dates from 1912, is municipally designated and, with several other red brick, timber truss structures and a turntable, is part of a large industrial site situated in Victoria. (The line was extended in 1887.) The CPR acquired the E&N in 1905, but is using only part of the roundhouse for its operations. Despite pressure from the City to effect repairs, a leaking roof now threatens to cause serious structural damage. With the weight of the Local Government Act behind it and the support of the Ministry of the Attorney General, the City took its case against the CPR to the B.C. Supreme Court last September. The CPR responded that, as a federally chartered railway, it could not have its operations curbed by means of a municipal maintenance standards statute. The City countered, noting that the portion of the roundhouse being damaged is not involved in present rail operations. Before a final ruling could be made, both parties agreed to settle out of court. Under the agreement, the CPR will spend about $100,000 on temporary roof repairs to last at least 18 months. This could buy both parties the time neededto find a more permanent solutio.

And this from the Roundhouse Museum Project list:The current status of the E & N railway was just about passed itsfinal approval and is waiting for the provincial government to changethe tax act..in bc..CPR and RailAmerica tax certificates have beenapproved from the federal government as they wait for the provincialgovernment. From What I've been told railamerica will remove all thereequipment december 1,2005 and the final date for there stuff will endjanuary 1 2006. There is a new operating company comming in to run thedayliner and all the railways operations will be comming back tovictoria. The new operator of the railway has already started work andsome rail aggreement have been signed.with norske canada and they areworking on the railway line from the main to chowichan spur to docksand hope to have a rail barge running to the usa ...They are alsoplanning on removing all the equipment and railway tracks in thewellington yard and selling this land off for condo development..allthe moneys will be put toward the operation and future of therailway. So the date draws closer as the new railway athourity soontake over.Alot hasn't been said and being very low key about it untilthe final paperwork is completed.Brock R Baileybrbailey@shaw.ca
