Has anyone rewheeled the former DL&W coaches? If so - how was that done. Any blanks out there? Any coaches being cut up with good wheel sets? These have the plain bearings.Thanks -Jim |

Jim,The plain bearing coaches have B-36 multiple wear wheel blanks on 5 x 9 bearings and centers. This is the same as most Pullman cars. Either find someone scrapping an old Pullman, or have new ones made. At the moment B-36 are a little tight due to the boomlet in freight car manufacture, but last I checked, ORX near Altoona had some; the problem will be that most B-36 in stock will have been rough bored for 6 x 11 axles. The Canadians redid their old Pullman axles by mounting Class D freight roller bearings (5 1/2 x 10) on 5 x 9 centers. I recall from the appraisal I did in Campo twenty years ago that you have an ex Army baggage car or somesuch with these wheels under it.I have another matter I need to talk to you about, and your phone number in my address book is old for you. Dear Jim and Board,Have any of the operators of these cars thought about creating an informal network to exchange and/or manufacture parts such as these. nee-DL&W MU's are the largest single group of coaches of any type operating in various services around the US - and I think that significant economies of scale could be had in acquiring/manufacturing parts in larger lots.
