Post subject:  Portland commuter rail

The Altamont News yesterday reported that commuter rail was being considered in the Portland (OR) suburbs of Wilsonville, Tualatin, Tigard, and Beaverton and would happen over "existing rails". I can only assume this means the Oregon Electric/BNSF/Portland and Western ROW which runs west of I-5 through the area. Anyone know any more info?

The "commuter rail" isn't being considered, it's being funded. Commuter trains are going to run mornings and evenings, and freight trains will run durring the "windows". The Beaverton section is going to get new a ROW, I've been told, it will go up Lombard street. This will connect it to the light rail terminal at Beaverton. Yes, it will be using the Portland and Western tracks.
