I'd like to hear more about her internal status and boiler shell. Does anyone have pictures of the cab and backhead? How about the tender? I am told the tender is from a G5s class 4-6-0. The loco stood in the Pittsburgh area for a long time, abandoned behind a building it served as a stationary boiler. Trees once grew up through the structure. I am told that the move to W&W was a financial horror, but it achieved something in saving the locomotive. If she is so badly stripped, could that be a good beginning to reviving her? I know that it would be an open chasm into which money is poured, but for a PRR 0-6-0...? And one that we know actually exists!

I can only say this for certain: The cab we now see is a fabrication, as the original was removed to facilitate transport. My recollection of the boiler backhead was a totally blank backhead--not even the firebox doors, as I recall. Weather, rust, asbestos removal and years of neglect all took their tolls.I never heard one iota of boiler analysis done while this loco was on the W&W, and for presumably good reason: Between the presence of a 4-4-0, a 2-6-0, a lighter 0-6-0, that massive 0-6-0, and light track and wooden trestles, what will get considered for operation and what won't? Looks can be deceptive, however, and absent some concrete analysis I'm only guessing that the operation of 60 would be both a highly expensive rebuild and a relatively low priority. Please remember that there remains under restoration another PRR 0-6-0, B8 643, at Williams Grove Park near Harrisburg, Pa.--being reboilered as donations allow.

Don't forget PRR 643, the 0-6-0 in Williams Grove, PA that is in the final stages of a major rebuild that included a new crownsheet. The last time I talked to them all of the appliances and cab are back on and she is basically down to a plumbing project. After remembering some of the new pipe they had put on 643 is now 40 years old the group has decided to go with all new pipe. They should have her back in service for next season. That reminds me, it is about time for me to send them another donation to help pay for some of that pipe. John Bohon

The Williams Grove 0-6-0 is PRR class B4a (Former class M) if I'm not mistaken.

The loco is no longer owned by the HRCV/W&W. It was sold in the 1990's to Mr Minker, who owns the freight house type structure #60 sits next to. He had that building built for his personal business. 'Four States Inc.' did the cosmetic restoration on it when their RDG bluliners were stored there, being readied for their opertion in West Chester. That loco was never to be operated on the W&W. It came there along with a host of other "junk" in the 1970-80's that everyone knew would never see restoration. I believe it was more or less someons personal idea to start a museum down there. They did at one point have the largest private collection of steam on the East Coast....but they wised up and sold off what they didn't need and sold some things they should have kept (#3,0-6-0T). #60 sat for the longest time next to the Hurcules Research Center rusting away, till it was bought and moved to Hockessin. This was one of 5 0-6-0's that were on the W&W roster at one point.I wouldn't count on ever seeing #60 restored to operation.
