| Post subject: | Santa Claus keeps coming to town |
If you want to catch a Christmas train, Scranton, PA is the place to be, as Slocum Hollow's Christmas Magic, a one-hour night time train ride to the North Pole begins this coming saturday night. Check www.nps.gov/stea/ for details on times. Also, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train begins its US journey on the former D&H heading to Canada on Nov. 30 at 5:30pm. Second stop after Scranton is Binghamton, NY.Saturday, December 3 features Steamtown's diesel locomotive no. 514 running a Santa special with arrivals at Carbondale, Archbald, Jessup, Olyphant and Dickson City throughout the day. This train is referred to as Santa's train, and Christmas in a Small Town, with local gatherings at the town squares to greet Santa and Mrs. Claus.The next Saturday, Dec. 10, the Tobyhanna and Moscow stations will host Santa's arrival on a Delaware-Lackawanna diesel locomotive and caboose.Each program does well, because they all have a different audience to reach. Everybody seems to believe that a train is an important part of the holiday season, and an inexpensive way to bring Santa Claus with that train is well received. |
